Director of Manufacturing Operations

The Studio

BREAKFAST is a world-renowned art collective with a reputation for conceiving and producing some of the most high-tech, complex, and unique art sculptures in the world. Our work can be found in museums, lobbies, stadiums, and public spaces across the globe.

Behind the scenes of this art studio, you will find that a lot of our processes and technologies are very similar to the tech start-up / product development world. We are a 15 person full time team consisting of electronics engineer, several mechanical engineers and software engineers, project and production managers, and 3 assembly/installation technicians.

The Position

We're looking for a pragmatic, versatile Director of Manufacturing Operations to manage our production department and general operations that happens after we sell an art piece. This includes dealing with end clients, part sourcing, schedule and oversee production, ship out and installs. BREAKFAST is a small company so the right candidate is someone with great problem solving attitude and can spot an issue and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves to fix it.

In this role you will be a dealing with all our manufacturing vendors, several overseas and several domestic. As well as help us find and evalute new vendor relationsships. Today these vendors create parts for us that are assembled and QC'd in our studio's assembly area before they are thoroughly tested, packed up and shipped out for installation.

You'll be working closely with our Project Director, who owns and oversees all new R&D and engineering for never-seen-before projects. Your job is more on the operations side of the business where production needs your full oversight from sale to production and all the way to install. Along the way for each project you'll work with the founding artists and sales teams (galleries), design and engineering staff and technicians. You'll also work very closely with our Production Manager who owns logistics, BOMs, hiring technicians etc.

You'll be the technical point person for our clients and collectors. Often this means oversight of drawings for their GC regarding site prep or coordinating installs with our technicians.

It's important to note that there is both management of production/processes and workflows, vendors as well as management of humans (designers, hardware and software engineers) in this role. To pull off the production for one of our pieces, today requires a lot of hands on work by our engineers.

You must be an entrepreneurial problem solver who's got confidence, resolve and creativity in difficult situations. Have the ability to juggle multiple projects and leadership skills to guide big projects with cross-functional teams to completion.
