The Studio

BREAKFAST is a world-renowned art studio with a reputation for conceiving and producing some of the most high-tech, connected artworks in the world. BREAKFAST’s pieces can be found in various museums, lobbies, stadiums, private collections, and public spaces all around the globe. 

Our 50+ works have all been created by a group of 10 or less full-time employees. In this role you will be working closely within a cross functional team or designers and engineers to develop some of the largest mechatronic art installations in the world.

The Role

BREAKFAST is seeking a diversely skilled electronics designer/developer who will help guide the studio in creating our next-generation pieces, pushing our systems to be more advanced and groundbreaking than ever before. It is a truly unique and one-of-a-kind role.

You will be responsible for PCB design and related electronics for all the pieces BREAKFAST creates. You'll work closely with the whole team to develop the electronics components that take thousands of motors and mechanical parts and turn them into magnificent sculptures to be seen and experienced by millions.

This is an onsite, full time role in Brooklyn NY.  We are currently building out an 9000sqft space in the Navy Yard that we're moving to in the new year. Fit for development of some artwork of truly epic proportions! =)

Responsibilities

  • Design of PCBs, wiring harnesses, communications
  • Design of power systems and cabling for DC distribution
  • QC and testing of designs and support in manufacturing
  • On-call support when field work such as sculpture installs occur
  • Build prototypes to validate and iterate on ideas
  • Participate in design reviews, development, and documentation of functinalty
  • Produce block diagrams and schematic for system integration
  • Parts ordering and work with board house on supply chain

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in EE, CS or similar related field
  • 5+ years of experience in creating digital hardware products
  • Vast experience in schematic design and board layout
  • Experience with DFM, Supply Chain, Part Sourcing
  • Experience with EMC/EMI testing and design to safety standards such as UL/ETL
  • Strong debugging/troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Knowledge of standard microcontroller peripherals (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.)
  • Experience working with sensors, actuators, LEDs, stepper motors etc.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with Linux, python, c/c++
  • Working experience with KiCad for PCB design
  • Math/Robotics/EE/Computer Vision skills
  • Experience using depth sensors or computer vision for interactivity.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems
  • Experience with FPGAs / VHDL / Verilog etc
  • Experience with weather proofing electronics
