BREAKFAST is seeking a skilled software engineer who will help the studio in creating our next-generation pieces, pushing our systems to be more advanced and groundbreaking than ever before. It is a truly unique and one-of-a-kind role.

You will be working closely with our Senior Software Engineer on a cross-discipline team including software, mechanical, and electrical engineers. • Design, implementation, and maintenance of control software (both backend and frontend) for BREAKFAST’s kinetic sculptures
  • Design and implementation of internal debugging tools and automated test software
  • On-call support when field work such as sculpture installs occur
  • Participate in design reviews, development, and documentation of functionality

  • 3+ years of experience writing and supporting code that runs in production
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable using distributed version control software (we use Git)
  • Command of more than one programming language (we use Python, C, C++, and HTML/CSS/JS)
  • Strong understanding of web technologies (HTML, Javascript, CSS) and the protocols around them (HTTPS, TCP/IP, etc.)
  • Comfortable with Linux systems and working with the command line

Nice to Haves

  • Experience working with electronics and embedded systems (even Arduino!), or a desire to learn
  • Scientific computing experience (MATLAB, Numpy, etc.)
  • 3D graphics (especially VR) programming experience
  • Strong web frontend skills (we use React for our user interface work)

Benefits and Compensation

  • Work at a studio unlike any other in the world and have the opportunity to make a real impact.
  • Fun, creative, and challenging work environment. Everyone learns something new every day.
  • Competitive salary.
  • Option to work remotely with in-studio time when necessary.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • We encourage employees to take as much vacation they feel is appropriate, necessary, and/or desired. There is no theoretical cap, as long as goals are being met.
  • Summer Fridays.
  • Various weekly and annual activities to encourage a healthy culture.

We strongly encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the criteria but feel like you would be a strong candidate.
